How to Find an Art and Design School

by Sarah Ward on September 20th, 2010

Here are a few of the questions that you will need to ask yourself when considering attending an art and design school:

Do I want an art and design school certificate?

Do I want a degree in art?

How much time do I want to devote to my studies?

How much will it cost?

Where would I like to attend school?

Who are the professors?

Would I like to be near home, or would I like to venture further away?

What area of art and design will I want to study?

Will the schools that I like lead me to a promising career?

There is an abundance of career choices in the art and design industry, so focus on what is best for you. Speak with the art teachers at the local schools and colleges. Talk with as many artists as possible to get their point of view.

Make sure to request informational catalogs from all the schools that pique your interest.

Once you have narrowed down your options, it is time to visit the campus or campuses that you have chosen. Here you will want to take a tour. Be prepared, ask questions, and take notes. You may want to go back to some of the places that you have toured to investigate further. Talk to students about their experience. You will be spending a lot of time, and a lot of money for your education, so information is the key to the best possible decision.

If you need help with finances, then do your homework and look for the best possible loans. Grants and scholarships may be available too. Schools also have financial aid. Search all avenues carefully.

After you have done your research, whether you choose an art and design school near or in your home town, or choose a school further away, you can be assured that you have made a great choice based upon your needs.
